Traveling down the highway from the western mountains to the desert floor, is a scenic ride the visitor will find very interesting. Flora and fauna range from sub Alpine down through the upper Sonoran zones with amazing, abundant variety.

When you reach the desert floor, the scenery is stunning. The San Ysidro Mountains form a granite barrier to the West. The North is guarded by Coyote Mountain, thrusting up abruptly from the desert floor. The Santa Rosa Mountains in the East provide a barrier from the tropical Mexican storms during hurricane season.

In late winter and early spring the desert floor is a blaze of color. This is a great time to experience the pulse of life in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
